FAQ

FAQ

1Where are Helix Mooring anchors manufactured?
All Helix Mooring anchors are Made in the USA by AB Chance.
2What are the anchors made from?
Each anchor is made from solid steel with a hot dipped galvanized finish.
3Is the Helix Mooring anchor good solution for environmentally sensitive areas?
Yes!! For Oceans and Lakes - Because a Helix Mooring anchor provides superior holding, you can minimize the chains scope. With a far smaller scope, you eliminate a long length chain, which will not drag on sensitive sea floor vegetation. For Walkways - When building walkways in environmentally sensitive area, the Helix Mooring anchor is the solution because: there is no soil excavation, there is minimal impact on vegetation, and it can be installed in limited access areas.
4Why should I use a Helix Mooring anchor over a mushroom or concrete block?
A. Versatility with a high loading capability to serve any permanent anchoring need.
B. Holding power which cannot be equaled by mushroom or concrete blocks.
C. Once installed, anchor stays put. Unlike a block or mushroom anchor, the Helix Mooring anchor is not affected by a sloped bottom and will not “drag” under heavy gusts/forces.
5How are Helix Mooring anchors installed?
Some of the Round Shaft anchors can be installed by hand with a turning bar. However, Square Shaft anchors are installed using a hydraulic torque motor. They can be installed from a surface barge using drive tools to reach the harbor bottom or by a diver using an underwater torque motor supported by a surface vessel.
6Can a Helix Mooring anchor be removed or repositioned?
Yes, just reverse the original installation process.
7What can a Helix Mooring be used for?
Boat moorings, floating docks, seawall projects, aquaculture projects, walkways.
8How is holding power measured?
The installation effort required to screw the anchor through resisting soils is measured in PSI during the installation process and then converted to foot pounds of installation torque.
9How much does anchor cost?
There is a large range in anchor cost with many variables to consider. The size of the Helix Mooring anchor depends upon the site location bottom and the holding requirements. Compared to other anchors on the basis of delivered holding and effective life, the Helix Mooring anchor is the most cost-effective option.
